Today I am starting a new recipes series that follows the 2016 Formula One Grand Prix Racing Circuit around the world in 21 countries from March to November. I will be cooking the cuisine of each country that hosts a Grand Prix race this year. This series is dedicated to my husband Tom, an enthusiastic fan of both Formula One and my blog Homemade Italian Cooking.
The first Grand Prix starts in Melbourne, Australia on March 20 (12 Midnight CT). To celebrate the opening of the F1 season I am making a classic Australian meal - Shrimp-on-the-Barbie and Pineapple Brown Fried Rice. We will enjoy a Victoria Bitter beer with it as we stay up late to watch the race live. Look for the recipes later today.
Formula One race cars are the fastest motorsports cars in the world, traveling at speeds up to 220mph around curvy tracks and roads in gorgeous settings. The most famous Grand Prix is in Monaco.
The drivers race to score points and the winner of the Grand Prix Driver's World Championship is a prestigious title indeed. Last year, Lewis Hamilton on the Mercedes Team won. This year we are rooting for Sebastian Vettel and the Scuderia Ferrari Team. Tom is looking forward to my global-inspired meals and watching the Ferrari team make a comeback.
If you are not familiar with Formula One watch the Oscar-nominated movie Rush with my favorite actor Chris Hemsworth. It is based on the true story of the rivalry between Formula One race cars drivers James Hunt and Niki Lauda. Director Ron Howard captured the essence of Formula One racing with a 1970's vibe perfectly. I just loved this movie, and became a big fan of F1 after seeing it.
Follow me if you want to get my Grand Prix recipes and F1 Team updates. I might throw in a few more pictures of Chris Hemsworth just to keep it real.
The next Grand Prix is in Bahrain on April 3.
