Tony CannoliHubby and I visited the brand new Tony Cannoli  Pastry Shop in Mundelein, Illinois this week. Just Wow! His traditional Sicilian cannoli are fantastic... but....Tony's special chocolate creations of cannoli shells filled with a chocolate hazelnut cream, and the Turtle with caramel and pecans are outrageous!!

Tony "Cannoli" Volpentesta learned how to make cannoli from his Italian grandmother and took it to a new level. He has perfected a unique recipe for his shells that are crisp like a cookie but flaky too. Each order is filled by hand at the time of order which is a signal that these are the real deal.  He also creates unique seasonal flavors of the day such as pumpkin and lemon. I heard a rumor that he made a Bacon Cannoli! Now that is a killer idea.

Yes, I say, making homemade cannoli is best. You can always follow my recipe and video on how to make them like an authentic Sicilian Grandmother. (Mine are not as pretty). Cannoli

I also made a cannoli batch for Christmas using Italian Pizzelle cookies for shells.  The advantage is that they are cooked in a waffle-type electric griddle, and not deep-fried.  To get the recipe, click to download my[download id="3619"]Pizzelle Cannoli

But if you want cannoli RIGHT NOW! go to Tony Cannoli and pick up a dozen. Tell him Cara sent you!

I guarantee you will eat half in the car ride home.

tony cannoli Tony Cannoli is located at 460 N. Lake Street, Mundelein, Illinois, and open 10AM - 7PM, closed Sundays. At this time Tony Cannoli does not ship out of state so you will just have to follow my recipes in the meantime. lol.
